Your notes and reminders. On every device.

One app for your phone and your computer, with each system’s own menus and shortcuts. Every feature is free, and your notes are encrypted before anything leaves your device.

  • Mac
  • Windows
  • Linux
  • iPhone
  • Android

Feels like it came with your device.

The menus, alerts and shortcuts you already know, on a Mac, a Windows PC, Linux, an iPhone or an Android phone.

Notelet on a Mac, in its own Paper look: folders, tags and reminder tiles in the sidebar, the Travel folder's notes, and the note Lisbon in spring with a picture, a packing checklist and a table. At home on a Mac.

Ink and a yellow highlighter, serif note titles, glass toolbar buttons and the system’s type. The window’s toolbar is its title bar, and the menu bar is the real one.

  • A real menu bar, every command in the order you expect, with its shortcut
  • Right-click menus are the system’s own NSMenu, Liquid Glass and all
  • Alerts slide down from the window as sheets
  • Touch ID opens locked notes
  • The system’s own controls

Where a system has its own menu, alert, picker or switch, Notelet uses it. Where it doesn’t, it draws one to that system’s guidelines.

  • The system’s own type and colour

San Francisco, Segoe UI Variable, Adwaita Sans or Google Sans Flex, and the accent colour you picked for your desktop or phone.

  • The system’s own words

“Sort By” on a Mac and in GNOME, “Sort by” on Windows and Android. Even the capitals follow the house style.

From a quick thought to a whole plan.

Jot a line, tick off a list, build a table, lock away something private, and set a reminder for it, in the same app.

Rich notes, without the fuss.

Checklists, tables, headings, highlights, and links to the web or to your other notes. Type 1200 / 4 = and the answer appears.

A note called Studio move on Windows, with a checklist of four items, two ticked, and a budget table. A note called Studio move on Windows in dark mode, with a checklist of four items, two ticked, and a budget table.

Reminders, built in.

Lists and smart lists (Today, Upcoming, Flagged, All) with repeats, subtasks, sections, priorities and templates. Your lists in Apple Reminders come across in one step.

A purple reminders list called Lisbon trip on iPhone, in two sections: Before we go and In Lisbon. A purple reminders list called Lisbon trip on iPhone in dark mode, in two sections: Before we go and In Lisbon.

Pictures, PDFs and sketches.

Drop in photos, videos, PDFs and audio, or sketch with a finger. iPhone photos show sharp on Windows, Linux and Android too. Every attachment, from every note, in one browser.

Locked notes.

One password locks the notes you choose, sealed on your device. Open them with Touch ID, Face ID or Windows Hello.

  • Smart folders and tags

Type a #tag anywhere. Smart folders gather notes by tag, date, checklist, attachment or lock.

  • Search that forgives

Ignores case and accents: “cafe” finds “Café”. Narrow it to checklists, tags or attachments.

  • Maths in your notes

Sums, variables and units: 5 km in miles = works out as you type.

  • Pins, galleries, subfolders

Pin what matters, browse a folder as a gallery, nest folders, and jot Quick Notes.

  • Bring your notes

Import from Apple Notes, Evernote, Google Keep, Simplenote, Bear and Obsidian, folders and all, and your lists from Apple Reminders.

  • Take them anywhere

Export to Markdown or PDF, print, or share. Your notes are never stuck here.

  • Made for the keyboard

A shortcut for everything, find and replace, and notes in windows of their own on desktop.

  • Offline first

Your library lives on your device. Everything works without a connection; sync catches up later.

Pick up where you left off.

Change a note on one device and the others have it a moment later, through Notelet Cloud, even after a day offline.

How it compares.

Most notes apps stay on one company’s devices, leave out reminders, or charge to sync. Notelet runs on all five, with reminders built in, and every feature is free.

Private by default.

Your notes are encrypted on your device before they sync, and locked notes stay sealed with your password.

Standard the default
Notelet Cloud keeps your library’s key, sealed with a key only its servers hold. Signing in on a new device opens your notes, and you can always get back in, even if you lose every device, like iCloud’s standard protection. Whoever controls your account could open them, so we email you whenever a new device takes the key or the protection changes.
Advanced protection in Settings
Notelet keeps no key. Only your devices and your seven-word passphrase open your notes. Lose both and they’re gone.
Your own storage
No Notelet server at all: only your devices and your passphrase open your notes.
  • XChaCha20‑Poly1305

Every change is encrypted on your device before it’s sent. The storage sees sealed files, their sizes and times, never their words, and each file is sealed with its name so none can be swapped for another.

  • Nothing lost in a clash

Edits merge on your devices, in any order. Change the same note in two places at once and both changes stay.

  • Locked notes, too

A locked note’s words are sealed even on your own device, until your password, Touch ID, Face ID or Windows Hello opens them.

  • No ads, no tracking

There are no analytics in the app, and this site doesn’t track you either.

Common questions

Is Notelet free?

Yes: every feature, on every system. Syncing through your own storage is free for good, and the first 1,000 Notelet Cloud accounts get 5 GB free for life. Paid plans for more space open soon; see pricing.

Is syncing free?

Through storage you already have, yes, for good: an S3-compatible bucket, a WebDAV server, or on desktop a folder that Dropbox, iCloud Drive, OneDrive or Syncthing keeps in step. Through Notelet Cloud, the first 1,000 accounts get 5 GB free for life; after that, Cloud space will be a paid plan (50 GB for £10 a year, 200 GB for £25 a year), opening soon.

Is there an Apple Notes app for Windows or Android?

No. Apple offers Notes and Reminders on iCloud.com in a web browser, but no app for Windows, Android or Linux. Notelet is an independent notes and reminders app with an app on all five systems, and if you’re coming from Apple Notes its folders, smart folders, tags, checklists and locked notes will feel familiar. See Notelet vs Apple Notes.

Does Notelet sync with Apple Notes or iCloud?

No. Notelet keeps its own library and syncs through Notelet Cloud or your own storage. You bring your Apple Notes across once: export them from Notes on a Mac, then import them. See importing your notes.

Can I share a note with someone else?

Not yet. Notelet syncs your notes between your own devices. You can send a copy of a note, as text, Markdown or a PDF, but not edit one together.

Can anyone at Notelet read my notes?

Your notes are encrypted on your devices (XChaCha20‑Poly1305) before they sync, and Notelet Cloud stores only ciphertext. By default Notelet Cloud also keeps your library’s key, sealed with a key only its servers hold, so signing in on a new device opens your notes and you can always get back in, like iCloud’s standard protection. Whoever controls your account could open them, so we email you whenever a new device takes the key or the protection changes. Nobody at Notelet looks at your notes, and our tools don’t open them. Turn on Advanced protection in Settings and Notelet keeps no key: only your devices and your seven-word passphrase open your notes.

What if I lose my devices?

Sign in to your account on a new device and your notes come back: there’s nothing else to remember. With Advanced protection on, there’s no recovery by design: keep your seven-word passphrase somewhere safe, like a password manager, because if you lose it and every device, nobody can open your notes, including us.

Why does Notelet look different on my PC than on my Mac?

On purpose. On a Mac and an iPhone, Notelet wears its own Paper look: cream paper, warm ink and a yellow highlighter. On Windows 11 it takes Fluent, on Linux Adwaita and on Android Material 3, in your accent colour. Each system gets its own menus and controls; every screen, command and shortcut is the same everywhere.

Can I bring my notes from another app?

Yes. Notelet imports what Apple Notes, Evernote, Google Keep, Simplenote, Bear and Obsidian export, keeping folders, dates, pins, tags, checklists and pictures. You see what will come in first, and notes you already have are skipped. On an iPhone or a Mac, your lists in Apple Reminders come across too, from Settings.

Do I need an account?

No. Notelet works on its own, offline, with your notes on your device. You only need an account for Notelet Cloud, and none at all if you sync through your own storage.

Which storage works for syncing?

Notelet Cloud; any S3-compatible bucket, such as Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, Amazon S3 or MinIO; a WebDAV server such as Nextcloud or a Synology; or, on desktop, a folder that Dropbox, iCloud Drive, OneDrive or Syncthing keeps in step.

Is Notelet made by Apple, Microsoft or Google?

No. Notelet is an independent app that follows each system’s published design guidelines. It isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.

Is Notelet open source?

No. Notelet is made independently and is free to use, but its code isn’t published. How your notes are encrypted is described on this page, under privacy, and in the privacy policy.
